John Nation is a native born Orange County resident. Raised in North Orange County, and then moved to South Orange County at the age of 29. His first choice of work was not in real estate but for some reason or another he ended up as an agent and has loved it ever since. "There's something about finding and selling homes for people," explained John, "It can definitely be a stressful process at times but in the end; it's the joy and the heartfelt thanks I get from my clients that really makes it all worthwhile."
At 17 John decided to study acting and pursue a career in the field. While attending college (Theater Arts Major) John was able to cut his teeth doing some local community theater as well as some small roles in TV and Movies. You may have seen him in such shows as (if you can remember back then) "Charles in Charge" "Family Ties" and "Days of our Lives." As exciting and interesting as the business was, it was also very difficult to get consistent work and make a living. Foreseeing marriage and children down the road, John needed to set his sights on a more solid financial future and turned his eyes to his favorite hobby… computers. He spent the next ten years in the IT industry working for companies such as Canon Computer Systems, GE, Toshiba and Fluor Corporation where he eventually became an applications developer and web programmer. Even though he found the work mentally stimulating, there was a strong lack of “human” interaction. Imagine being stuck in a room where they shove pizza and Red Bull under the door. Well it may not have been quite that bad but you get the picture. Then one day in 2003 and quite by accident John met a sales manager at Ditech.com. He eventually convinced John to make a career jump into residential real estate financing. “It was 2003 and it was the start of a huge refinance boom. I was trained for two weeks and then thrown directly into the fire.” John built up a pipeline managing over 80 loans at once. Needless to say he was educated quickly with that kind of volume. By 2005 John got his real estate license and the rest is history. “I finally found something I love to do and haven’t stopped since.”
Even though John mostly helps his clients buy and sell homes, he has the benefit of taking care of the financing for his buyers as an added service. “My buyers are always welcome to use whomever they wish to take care of their financing, however, because I’m already making money off the real estate portion of the transaction, I’m able to offer loans to my buyers with closing costs that are next to nothing. Because of this, no one else can compete. My buyers get the greatest benefit of all by saving thousands of dollars.”
Today John is able to use his past experience in IT to give cutting edge service to his real estate clients. “Over 80% of home buyers these days begin their search on the Internet and I’m right there to greet them. Most old school realtors out there are afraid to even dip their toes in today’s technology. They’re happy to keep advertising their properties in the newspaper and magazines. Seriously, that no longer works. I’m sorry; 120 days on the market doesn’t cut it. There’s a new wave of home buyers out there. They’re younger and more internet savvy. I market my client’s home in the most relevant places and expose their properties to the world.”
